Thoughts on “Modern Times”
In “Modern Times” directed and produced by Charlie Chaplin himself is a very intriguing film. The fact that he foreshadows the future at the beginning of his film show his thoughts on the hard times such as the fact that he believed that men and machines did not agree. He also revealed that life, as a factory worker was not an easy life, particularly during this time period because of the strikes within the factory workers, the red scare and the tension between the police and the people themselves. Throughout the movie Chaplin the factory worker suffered many hardships and not once did he give up, at some point he even revealed some of his aspirations, dreams, which were common among the working class. Especially at the end when Chaplin advises the gamin to continue to smile, he is advising the working class and lower classes to keep smiling no matter what hardships they encounter.
